Here is a new sonnet concerning the raising of the widow’s son at Nain. You might like to compare this with the longer poem “Nain” on this website. Here is the new sonnet:
A funeral procession visible
A widow bereft of her only son
Now facing destitution terrible
Death claimed the victory, the battle won.
The Lamb of God, full of compassion deep
To free her from her loss, spoke tenderly
To her, and to bring her son from his sleep
Did touch the bier and with authority,
Commanded that the dead man be raised up;
From Sheol’s grip the man was now released,
Uncleanness gone, no more grief’s bitter cup,
Instead a feast of joy without surcease.
In Jesus, our mourning is turned to joy,
In Him is life which death cannot destroy.
