Greetings everyone. Below is a poem I wrote in honour of Chris, my late Brother-in-Law, who passed away in July 2020. The poem was read out at his funeral and a year later (because of Covid) at a celebration of his life, which many attended. It will be put in the new Family Related section shortly. Now read on…………
A FLIGHT OF STARS
From humble earthly origin, a star
Began to rise from childhood, rising high
To academic stardom, there to leave
Behind a life of questioning and turmoil.
Success in academia brought forth
The gift of teaching whereby others would
Receive from wisdom’s light the chance to learn
And themselves blossom on life’s journeying.
Now wedding bells resound within the path
Of this star’s journey as two stars become
As one, which from their union would come
Two glorious starlets lighting up the way.
Upon this earthly path new shoots sprang up,
A love of nature and new growth which would
Bring forth much fruit, a harvest to enjoy,
Repeating year on year a fruitful yield.
And yet more gifts; a love of music and
Of singing, walking, cycling, mixing with
Like-minded stars, a social happiness
Good company was kept and much good cheer.
Extended family lit up the way,
As three more starlets gave the joyous gift
Of grandparenting, happiness unbound,
New lives to cherish, cuddle and adore.
Worship was interwoven in this life
Devotion and service was offered up
Year after year, a selfless act of love
And faith, which now has gained its true reward.
And so the sun has set upon this life,
As myriad stars in space are transcended,
And is now welcomed by the Morning Star
In Paradise, where he now takes his rest.
