Crimson over Scarlet

The scarlet tide that flows throughout
Humanity, contaminates
All thought and speech and action, due
To sin, its consequences which
Construct a barrier whereby
The spiritual relationship
Between Yahweh and humankind
Is lost, and to darkness consigned.

What once was pure and free from fault
And blemish, now is drowning in
A sea of red whose ebb and flow
Appears unceasing as it swirls
And rages over rapids urged
By sweeping currents flowing out
Into dark oceans deep and dark
An endless, long, ensnaring tide.

Unblemished lambs, their blood that flowed
Upon the altar to appease
The wrath of Yahweh for a time
Must make repeated sacrifice
Time and again for human sin
And frailty, so that sinful stains
No longer cause His eyes to rest
Upon the wretched human state.

No respite is there, it would seem
But from the shores of Paradise,
Its portals open, now descends
A lamb unblemished, white as snow
The sight of which there never has
Been seen and never will again
Be seen by human sight, behold
The Lamb of God, the Saviour dear.

He comes to bring to human souls
God’s kingdom and to plant a new
Life-giving way of truth and peace
In which the struggles of the old
Are swept away and new life breathed
Into all lives, and healing brought
To mind and body, and to soul,
This new which must replace the old.

For this to take place, there must be
One final conflict, evermore
To end the reign of sin and death
And crush Hell’s portals for all time
And for eternity beyond.
The Lamb of God must undergo
The height of human cruelty
To stem the scarlet ebb and flow.

A new and spotless crimson tide
Untouched by sin that had bespoiled
The creation, once pure and good
Now flows, the brutal flagrum lash
Which does its fearful, savage work
And yet is but a precursor
Of the one perfect act of love
To be displayed on Calvary’s hill.

The perfect, spotless crimson tide
Now flows with steady stream down from
The outstretched arms of him who came
To bring God’s kingdom. He who came
Is now raised up so that we all
May be drawn unto Him, the Lamb
Of God, who takes away our sins
To bring us safe to Paradise.

This one atoning sacrifice
Has breached and opened wide the ebb
And flow of scarlet oceans deep
And loosened its restraining grip
On human life and destiny.
For sin is pardoned for all time
The scarlet tide made powerless
Lost innocence restored for good.

Come unto Him, the Lamb of God
And make your heart His dwelling place.
Your sins are washed away and made
As white as snow, no more are they
A barrier, a stumbling block.
For you, the gates of Paradise
Are opened up, so enter in
He welcomes you with open arms.
