Humility

To tread the path of childlikeness and faith
Holding the hand of God
In times of light and dark
For He will not abandon us
Or forsake us.

In lowly service wash the feet of those
Committed to your care
With gentleness and joy
And humbly bow your head and kiss
The nailprint there.

Rejoice in lowliness of heart and mind
Forever seeking out
The lowest place of all
It is a royal throne where sits
The Lamb of God.

When others fail, beware the devil’s trap
To criticise and judge
Hold fast and pray, because
The beam in your own eye outweighs
The speck in theirs.

God calls each one of us to work for Him
We, by His Spirit, take
The yoke and burden light
The trap of false humility
Is idleness.

All virtues spring from humbleness of heart
Foundation firm and sure
From this true joy is found
We are the house, the dwelling of
The Servant King.
