A reflection on the origin of God
Yahweh, the living God
Before existence, is.
Before creation came
To be, He is; without
The governance of time
Which by Him came to be.
Dwelling forever in
The present moment, where
He is, and always is.
The burning bush, ablaze
With heavenly fire, burns not
Yet makes a temple for
He who is called “I AM.”
The answer is enough
For Moses’ questioning,
Saying “I AM who I AM,
I AM has sent me to you.
This is my name forever
And this my title for
All generations.” He
Forever is. With Christ
And Holy Spirit blessed,
Spoke creation into
Existence. “Let there be,”
Imperative, yet not
Impersonal. He is
Yahweh, who is “I AM”
All spirit, genderless.
How far back can we go
With feeble human mind
To plumb the depths of this
Question, which seems to us
Impossible, and yet
An answer there may be.
Will we be privileged
To know it, or will it
Remain in the mind of
Yahweh, the living God,
Source of all life and power?
In the beginning was
The Word, who was with God
And was God. And who was
In the beginning, with God.
The Word too, shares the name
“I AM” since He was with
Yahweh, in the present
Moment, co-existing
In the beginning with
Yahweh; yet can there be
A starting point for He
Who is, who has not been
Of former existence
Yet speaks of former times
And times still yet to come
To aid our human minds
Of heavenly mysteries.
What is for us to know
Of these great mysteries?
Can we now plumb the depths
Or scale up heights so vast
And far-reaching? For us
Humility is all
Sufficient for the day.
It is enough for us
To worship the “I AM,”
The one true God who lives
In humble, contrite hearts.
With one accord we greet
Him into our lives, to
Remain eternally
In human lives on earth
Then on the blessèd shores
Of Paradise. Amen.
