New Wine

(based on John 2: 1 – 11)

An invitation to a wedding held
In Cana, that would be the place in which
A miracle, a sign unparalleled,
Whereby the wedding feast would be enriched.

A sign of Jesus’ all-sufficiency
To overcome a human oversight
Of wine that had run out; such poverty
By His intervention would be made right.

Six water jars of stone, for ritual
Cleansing, to hold a wine superior
Changed from water, a flavour to enthral;
No base wine this, no grape inferior.

In Christ, we are the new wine and His bride,
In Paradise, forever to abide.
