Real Presence

Part One - Elevation.

As Eucharistic prayer is offered up
In silent expectation, all await
The King of Kings and Lord of Lords to take
His throne amongst the faithful, there to feed
And bless all souls with His divine presence.
The future perfect utterance of the words:
"Which will be given up for you" resound
As sacred host is raised by holy hands
To re-present the sacrifice made once
For all upon the cross to wipe away
All human sin and its dire consequence.
Now comes the King of Kings and Lord of Lords
To take His rightful place most mystical,
Substantially in the bread and in the wine,
Commanding adoration from all those
Who worship at the altar, waiting to
Partake of this most heavenly feast to bring
Them closer to the majesty on high
Allowing Him to reign within their hearts
And minds as one. O blessed salvific grace!

Part Two - Real Presence

On gazing at the elevated host
But for a moment one is transported
Into a state, a place, where majesty
And beatific vision are now seen.
A brief glimpse of the glory of the Lord
He who is King of Kings and Lord of Lords
Faithful and true, He comes to feed our hearts
And bodies with His Presence. Now the cup
Likewise is raised to bring fulfilment of
Pure sacramental grace. The vision still
Before one's eyes is held, its power and might
Is here before the worshippers and yet
Such gentleness and tenderness is shown.
Mercy, forgiveness, beauty, love and peace
Abide in sheer abundance, constantly
O'erflowing as the psalmist once had said.
At the conclusion of the prayer, both host
And cup are raised. See now the Real Presence
Of Jesus in the holy sacrament,
See now the Saviour of the world who takes
The sins of humankind unto Himself
Replacing them with His burden so light
And His yoke so easy, all are set free
Who come to Him in sorrow for their sins.
Blessed be the Real Presence for all time
And eternity, forever without end.

Part Three - Inner stirrings

On gazing on the Real Presence, a sense
Of wonder, worship comes into one's mind
A sense so strong and yet so gentle, as
To make one bend the knee or fall upon
Both knees in adoration, worship, praise,
To whisper softly the dear Saviour's name
With a heart filling up with love for Him.
Yet this love came not from oneself, but from
The Presence, which now fills the church with His
Real Presence, overshadowing us all.
From deep within, soft sighs now issue forth
Towards the majesty on high, present
Upon the altar, within the church and in
All human hearts, soft sighs too deep for words.
The Saviour bids all welcome and be blessed
With His most sacred body and His blood
Or with crossed arms and head bowed, blessing comes
And stays within the heart, and which wells up
In conversation at a later time.
In the beauty of holiness, worship
The Lamb of God, He who is King of Kings
And Lord of Lords, faithful and true is he.

Part Four - Real Love

Upon reflection of that sacred time
In which the Real Presence of the Lord
In majesty descended from on high
To fill all human hearts with love divine,
No accident the thought that came to mind
Concerning the Real Presence in the Mass:
Real love was present in the sacrament,
Real love was present in the hearts of all
Who praised and worshipped God with heart and soul,
Real love was present in that glorious church
Real love made one whisper the Holy Name
Of Jesus, as soft sighs fell from one's lips
Real love it was that caused the welling up
Of inward emotion and of loving thoughts.
The love of Jesus takes away our fears,
The love of Jesus forgives all our sins,
The love of Jesus draws us to Himself,
In open human hearts He makes His home.
Come, holy love of Jesus, dwell in us
And bring us at the last to Paradise.
