Simplicity

With reckless, sheer abandonment
The first disciples surrendered all,
To show a new, refreshing way
Of living in a material world.

Forsaking worldly wealth and fame
Francis chose Lady Poverty
To be his bride, and so break down
All barriers based on wealth and power.

To live simply, this is our aim
By sharing generously with all,
Avoiding luxury and waste
Holding all we have in trust for God.

We spend on what we need to have
And help put poverty to flight,
May we reflect the Lord’s command
To sell all, give and follow Him.
