The Man with Leprosy

(Based on Mark 1: 40 - 45)

A man with leprosy came to the Lord
Begging to be released from the disease
Which held him prisoner. With cries and pleas
He waited for Jesus to speak the word.

With heart filled with compassion, Jesus reached
And touched the man, saying: "I will. Be clean."
The disease vanished, no more to be seen,
Its grip loosened, its prison walls now breached.

A strong warning was given by the Lord
To tell no-one about the miracle,
But from the man's lips, joyous canticle
Was made to all, the warning thus ignored.

No town was there where Jesus could abide,
All sought Him out, coming from far and wide.
