This is a poem based on a talk given in December 2025 at the Chemin Neuf Community based in Storrington, West Sussex, during a Quiet Day held there. It is based on ten biblical texts, which are shown at the bottom of the poem.
1. Safe in the Shepherd's hands
Are we, the chosen flock.
He gives to us eternal life
We hear his voice
And follow Him
Our fortress and our rock
2. This is eternal life,
To know Yahweh, the one
True God and Jesus Christ, his Son,
The one He sent
To save all souls
Salvation's work begun.
3. For humankind was formed
From dust upon the ground
A mortal being yet was He
From his nascence
Unstained by sin
With perfection is crowned.
4. Behold the King of kings
Of David's royal line
And Lord of lords in majesty
The only one
Who can approach
The Father all divine.
5. Encouraged are we now
To know the Lord of lords
Appearing as the light of dawn
And like the showers
And soft spring rains
Worship with one accord.
6. May we our silence keep
And know the Lord our God
All nations are under his feet
And in the earth
Exalted is
Yahweh, Spirit and Word.
7. We are commended to
Trust in the Lord with all
Our hearts in the fullness thereof
From lofty heights
To sombre depths
In His strength, lest we fall.
8. No longer shall they teach
Or say to each other
To "Know the Lord", all shall know Him
Greatest to least
Sin blotted out
Remembrance now over.
9. A mirror's reflection
As dimmed, before our eyes
Then clarity of sight shall come
Now partial glimpse
Then fullest light
Of foreknowledge most wise.
10. Fountain of love divine
From Yahweh's loving heart
Given to all believers true
For He is love
And those who dwell
In Him, shall ne'er depart.
