Below is a new sonnet to do with the miracles of Jesus. This one is to do with his ministry of deliverance, when he delivered the demoniac who lived among the tombs in the area known as the Gerasenes. There are five accounts of Jesus’ deliverance ministry recorded in the Gospels, though it is mentioned that Jesus drove out seven demons from Mary Magdalene. However, there is no full account of this event, either in the Gospels or elsewhere. The sonnet is written below:
Held captive by demonic powers, lost soul
With broken fetters cries out for release.
The tombs his home; a lonely, dark hellhole,
No hope of freedom, happiness or peace.
The demons threw the man upon his knees
And begged Jesus, knowing their fate was sealed,
Not to be sent away; loud cries and pleas
To enter herds of swine, and to Him yield.
Unclean demons, in swine a new home found,
The madman, he gained freedom and release,
The swine, possessed, into a lake were drowned,
The madman, with Jesus, was now at peace.
In Jesus lies authority and power,
He is our refuge, fortress and strong tower.
