Immaculate Conception

From disobedience in Eden fair
Innocence now transformed into despair
Tangled would be the human race, entrapped
Caught up in dark Satanic web of lies.
A warfare born, of head and heel between
The woman and the serpent, opposites
An enmity unrivalled since the sin
Of the first Eve, then Adam led to their
Expulsion from the garden, tainted now
Was Adam and his seed from that first sin,
Fallen was he as in the human race
Entrapped in a black night of dark despair.
The serpent had triumphed in his deceit
To spoil all of creation, so he thought
Regardless of the consequences of
His act, as spoken by Yahweh, at whose
Command would crawl upon the ground and eat
Mere dust. Deluded was the serpent in
His thinking, mindless was he in his state
Of hollow victory, for he had no
Notion of the fullness of Yahweh’s mind
By which a fragrant flower would spring up
Unblemished and untainted by the fall
Of humankind, free from the taint of sin.
Forward our journey on to Nazareth
In Galilee, to Mary bearing in
Her womb, a godly miracle by which
The seed of Joachim would be made clean
And pure so as to procreate the one
Who would be born immaculate, free from
All sin and of its tarnished uncleanness
To be the one chosen by Yahweh to
In time become the Mother of Jesus,
The Lamb of God who would take away all
The sin of this world and bring redemption
To all humanity. Conceived was she
Preserved free from original sin and
Its consequences. Holy maiden pure,
Immaculate Conception, clean and bright
In Christ’s meritorious perfection
The sinless Lamb of God from sinless maid
Came forth into the world as Saviour true
Immaculate incarnation divine,
Creation by the Holy Spirit who
Did come upon and overshadow her
In response to her true obedient “Yes.”
Dear Mary, new Ark of new Covenant,
O spotless virgin, you are worthy of
Honour and veneration, yet in your
Purity, you point to the Lamb of God
Who takes away the sin of this dark world
To let His light shine and draw to Himself
All people who would willingly accept
Him as their Lord and Saviour. Blessed are you
Among all women. Now you make yourself
Known to those chosen, in appearance bright
In glorious beauty, far beyond compare
As seen by Bernadette, a simple soul
Of Lourdes, yet who obeyed your every word
And believed in your title, despite her
Lack of knowledge and understanding, still
She made it known, remaining steadfast when
Chided and scolded. Lies she in Nevers
Her body incorrupt, her purity
Intact like yours dear Mother. May we be
Like you in holiness and purity
Until at last we see Heaven’s bright gates
Open to welcome us to taste the fruits
Of Paradise, in sheer eternal bliss.
