Greetings everyone,
As promised, I have now uploaded the poem that was being “thought through”, “Balsdean Chapel” as stated earlier in my home blog page. This poem is to do with a now former chapel that used to be part of life in the village of Balsdean, way back in Norman times when it was first recorded circa 1100 AD. The chapel, along with the entire village, was bombed during World War 2, as part of an allied forces target practice initiative. Only a few derelict barns remain now, the village in effect being merely earthworks.
I have managed to put a photo of the plaque mentioned in the poem at the foot of said verse. When I first saw it a few years ago now, I could imagine in my mind the celebration of Mass or the priest singing for the souls of the departed, which was very common back then. Personally speaking, this was quite a poignant moment for me and I don’t mind admitting shedding a few tears during the writing of the poem. I hope you will join me on my journey.
